Frequently asked questions
How can I sign up to volunteer?
We’re excited to have your support! The sign-up process depends on how you’d like to help:
- General opportunities: To help with packing, events, or warehouse tasks, browse our current needs and then complete the Volunteer Sign-Up Form.
- Food runners: We use ChowMatch to manage our food rescue shifts. To become a runner, please create a ChowMatch account to browse and claim available routes.
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
We welcome young volunteers! All volunteers must be at least 11 years old. Volunteers under 18 years old need an adult chaperone, and some opportunities (such as food running) are limited to only adult volunteers.
Can I earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours?
We are happy to help students earn their SSL hours! Please note that while many opportunities qualify, food running is not eligible for SSL hours.
I have special professional skills (for example, graphic design, accounting, fundraising, etc.). Can I help?
While most of our needs are hands-on help with packing, distribution, or warehouse tasks, we occasionally have specialized projects. The best way to stay informed is to sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media for any other volunteer opportunities.
Can I bring a group to volunteer?
- Small groups (5–12 people): We offer several volunteer opportunities perfect for small groups.
- Large groups (12 or more people): For larger groups, please contact us directly so we can find the best project to accommodate your group size.
Do you offer evening, weekend, or offsite volunteer opportunities?
Yes, we offer some evening and weekend volunteer opportunities. However, all volunteer tasks must be completed at our designated locations. We do not offer remote volunteer tasks at this time.
Can you bring materials to our facility for volunteers to work on and then pick them up after we are finished?
All volunteer tasks must be completed at our designated locations. We do not offer remote volunteer tasks at this time.
Can I volunteer alongside a participant of a day program who is in need of special support?
Yes, we welcome inclusive volunteering! Please contact us in advance so we can make sure you have everything you need for a great experience.
Can I complete court-ordered service hours?
We appreciate your interest in completing your service hours with us. Complete our Apply for Service Hours form. Please note that food running is not eligible for service hours.
Can I donate food or money instead of completing my court-ordered hours?
No. Court-ordered service must be completed through active volunteering. Please consult with the court for further guidance.
